Mandela Day 2025: A Reflection on Service, Solar Power, and Hope
Starting the Day with purpose Mandela Day is more than just a global call to devote 67 minutes to helping others; it is a reminder of the legacy of service, justice, and humanity that Nelson Mandela left behind. This year, I had the honour of joining the University of Johannesburg's Community Engagement team for a meaningful Mandela Day experience at the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital. Our day began early on campus, with volunteers expected to arrive by 8 AM. Since our team was made up of 40 volunteers and we only had a 20-seater bus, we were split into two groups. I was part of the second group. The energy and excitement were evident from we arrived, and spirits were high as we joined the first group already at the hospital.
